Hertha BSC Berlin defender Maik Franz has turned down a contract offer from MLS club Columbus Crew, according to German media reports.
Franz, 32, had been linked with a switch to the MLS by German football magazine kicker on Thursday. At that time, Franz, dubbed "Iron Maik" by football fans in Germany for his style of football, had explained that the offer "could tempt me."
But, only a day later, the Bundesliga veteran, who has clocked up 192 Bundesliga appearances and a further 40 Bundesliga II appearances, has now turned down the Crew offer, Berliner Morgenpost reported.
Franz said that, in principle, he can still imagine a switch to the MLS, but turned down the Crew offer because of "contractual things," the paper reported.
Franz has not played a minute of Bundesliga football this season, and could now seek other opportunities at Berlin. One plan is that the 32-year old will now join the Hertha reserve squad, who are battling relegation in Germany's fourth tier.
