Whitecaps send Camilo to Querétaro

The Vancouver Whitecaps have sold MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo to Liga MX's Querétaro for a "club-record" fee.

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, but the Whitecaps will get two-thirds of the transfer fee while the rest goes to MLS.

Camilo, 25, led MLS with 22 goals last season.

"We have made the decision to part ways with Camilo Sanvezzo," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. "In doing so, we were able to negotiate a club-record transfer fee that will give us additional flexibility as we continue to build our club for the upcoming season and beyond."

Camilo Sanvezzo's goal will be memorable for some time.
Camilo Sanvezzo has completed his long-anticipated move to Mexican club Querétaro.

The completed transfer ends a dispute between Camilo and the Whitecaps that had gone public over the past few weeks.

Despite being under contract at Vancouver for 2014, the Brazilian striker has been practicing with Queretaro since early January, with a photo of him wearing Queretaro's uniform circulating on Twitter.

Querétaro president Adolfo Rios apologized for "misunderstanding" Camilo's contract status.

"We are pleased to report that we've come to an agreement with Camilo Sanvezzo and Vancouver Whitecaps FC," Rios said in a statement. "On behalf of our club, we sincerely regret our misunderstanding in regards to Camilo's contract earlier in the process."

Camilo was reportedly unhappy with his wages -- $247,500 Canadian last season according to the CBC, more than a million dollars less than fellow striker Kenny Miller's $1.25 million salary.
