Aurelien Collin eyes return to Europe

Aurelien Collin hopes his MVP-winning performance in Sporting Kansas City's MLS Cup triumph will earn him a return to European football.

• Davis: Three Things - Sporting Kansas City-Real Salt Lake

Collin, 27, struck his side's equaliser before setting the tone for Kansas City's penalty shootout victory over Real Salt Lake by slotting home the 10th spot-kick.

After failing to earn himself recognition in France and having played in the lower reaches of British football with Gretna and Wrexham, the defender now hopes to be given a bigger stage on which to express his talents.

Aurelien Collin joined Sporting Kansas City in 2011.

"I went over there to come back better. Today, I'm better than I was three years ago. I hope some nice opportunities will present themselves. If I come back, it's for something big. The top level in Europe," Collin, who had a two-year spell in Portugal with Vitoria Setubal before joining Kansas City, told RMC.

"My game is more adapted to England and Germany, I like physical contact. I grew up in the Paris suburbs. I hope it could be PSG one day, but that's a little far away for me for the moment."

A place in Laurent Blanc's squad would appear most unlikely for Collin. However, he will forever be in the pantheon of Kansas City's sporting heroes after bringing the franchise -- and the city -- its first national sporting title since 2000.

"I'm very happy," he said. "We have had the city behind us for the last three years, with a full stadium which makes a lot of noise. It was an extraordinary evening."
