Union's Nikolov mulls retirement

Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Oka Nikolov might call it a day after the ongoing MLS season, the veteran shot stopper told Bild.

The Eintracht Frankfurt legend joined the Union in June 2013 after 379 appearances for Frankurt over his 19 years at the club.

Nikolov failed to win the place between the Union posts and has, until now, not made a single MLS appearance. His contract at Philadelphia ends after the ongoing season.

"Everything can happen," Nikolov told German paper Bild when asked whether he is considering retirement after the season. "I will sit down with Union following our last game. I don’t know what the club plans. There are several options."

According to Bild, another option for Nikolov could be to prolong his contract for one more season. "Everything is thinkable. I will confer with my family," he said.

After 19 years in Germany's top two divisions, Nikolov said playing in MLS is a totally different experience.

Giving a few examples, he said: "Six hours on the plane, like to San Jose. Away games with three night's stay because of the different time zones."
