Report: Landon Donovan, L.A. agree
Landon Donovan and the Los Angeles Galaxy have agreed on a multiyear deal, according to a report.
The U.S. men's team midfielder was in the final year of his MLS contract, and the Galaxy are expected to announce the deal Wednesday, according to SI.com.
On Saturday, Donovan got his fourth goal in the past three matches to help the Galaxy (12-9-4) secure sole possession of second place in the MLS Western Conference.
Donovan needs four more goals to become the all-time leading scorer in MLS history.
Citing a desire to take a break from soccer, Donovan excused himself from the U.S. squad earlier this year and started the MLS season late after leading the Galaxy to the MLS Cup in December.
This summer, he helped the U.S. to a Gold Cup victory and is expected to be named by coach Jurgen Klinsmann to the U.S. World Cup qualifying team next month.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
