Macedonia names Ljubinko Drulovic as manager

SKOPJE, Macedonia -- The Macedonian Football Federation says it has appointed Ljubinko Drulovic of Serbia as the national coach.

The federation said on Thursday that Drulovic signed a 2 1/2-year contract.

The 45-year-old former Yugoslavia midfielder also played for Porto and Benfica.

This month, Macedonia dismissed coach Bosko Gjurovski after poor results in 2016 European Championship qualifying. During Gjurovski's 15-month tenure, Macedonia registered one win and four defeats from its opening five games in Group C.

Drulovic played 38 times for Yugoslavia. He started his coaching career in Portugal in 2006, and two years later was coaching clubs in Serbia and Slovenia. His biggest success was coaching Serbia to victory in the 2013 European Under-19 Championship.
