Lyon defender Christophe Jallet extends contract to 2018

Christophe Jallet has committed his immediate future to Lyon by signing a new deal to run until the summer of 2018.

The 32-year-old, who signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2014, has established himself as an important part of Les Gones' team even if he has had to compete for playing time this season with former Manchester United full-back Rafael.

"I am very happy," Jallet told the club's official website after signing the one-year extension.

"It continues my adventure in Lyon. When I arrived we had the aim to become once more a big team on the European scene.

"I wanted to be a part of that project and I am 200 percent committed. The contract was sorted in two days.

"This mark of the club's confidence pleases me enormously and gives me even more desire."

Coach Bruno Genesio added: "I am very happy for many reasons. He is one of the stars of the team and he is a motivator, thanks to his spirit and the example he sets."

Club president Jean-Michel Aulas, unusually, was absent from the announcement of the new contract.

"The president is ill and he is sleeping," fellow director Bernard Lacombe said before jokingly adding: "He will not play on Friday."

Genesio's side host fourth-placed Nice this week looking to maintain their hold on second place in Ligue 1.
