Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette set to miss PSG clash with thigh injury

Lyon expect star striker Alexandre Lacazette to miss Sunday's league game against Paris Saint-Germain after he was injured while scoring a goal against Valencia on Wednesday.

Lacazette, 24, pulled up after scoring Lyon's second goal in the 2-0 Champions League win over Gary Neville's side and was replaced by Claudio Beauvue.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas believes the France international is unlikely to make the journey to Paris to face the defending champions and Ligue 1 leaders.

"I fear that Alexandre Lacazette, who's injured, will be unavailable against PSG," Aulas told Lyon's TV channel after the game in Valencia. "He felt discomfort in his thigh on the run that led to his goal."

The news marred an otherwise excellent night for Lyon, who put their poor recent form behind them to wreck Neville's first game in charge.

They went ahead through a wonderful first-half goal from Maxwel Cornet before Lacazette struck on the counterattack with 14 minutes left.

"There's a lot of pride in seeing the players respond to expectations," Aulas said.

"They changed the state of mind and found some solutions... I'm happy for them because they took it upon themselves to put aside their difficulties. I saw players who were criticised give the best of themselves."

Lyon had lost four of their previous five matches in all competitions, and Fournier told reporters their final game in this season's Champions League left him thinking about what might have been.

"Obviously, it gives us regrets because you say to yourself that if we had shown this face in certain matches we would have undoubtedly battled for longer to get through to the last 16," he added.

"But that's life -- football at the highest level is unforgiving."
