Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette worried by failure to score

Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette says his wait for a first goal of the season is starting to weigh on his mind.

France international Lacazette, 24, had a late penalty saved as last season's Ligue 1 runners-up were held to a 1-1 draw in their first Champions League group game by nine-men Gent in Belgium.

Lacazette had a goal chalked off for offside and was denied by two good saves before Gent keeper Matz Sels made a brilliant one-handed stop from his spot kick three minutes from time.

"It's a major disappointment, especially on my part," Lacazette told L'Equipe after the game.

"I took responsibility but I didn't score. That won't prevent me from taking more penalties and most likely scoring some of them. That's football.

"I'm thinking a little on that first goal that's not coming. It's all the more of a pity because I'm feeling better and better.

"It's just a huge disappointment that I haven't rewarded the work of my teammates."

Lacazette signed a new contract last month after finishing as Ligue 1's topscorer with 27 goals last season.

That scintillating form saw him crowned Ligue 1's Player of the Year but five games into the new campaign he has yet to get off the mark.

Lyon boss Hubert Fournier said "the future would tell" if Lacazette's penalty miss would dent his confidence further, but club captain Maxime Gonalons has backed the team's star forward to bounce back.

"Alexandre is having a tough start to the season," Gonalons told Canal Plus. "We're all behind him. He has to rediscover his potency to put the wheels in motion, but that will come -- he hasn't lost his talent."
