Luton Town pledge to investigate anti-gay chants at Leyton Orient

League Two club Luton Town have vowed to work with Leyton Orient following allegations of anti-gay chanting at Orient's Matchroom Stadium on Saturday.

Media reports said Luton fans were heard chanting abusive slogans to a group of men in a block of flats that overlooks the stadium.

In a statement on their official website, Luton said: "We are in contact with Leyton Orient about allegations from Saturday's game.

"In response to various media reports over the weekend regarding allegations of [anti-gay] chanting by Luton Town supporters at Leyton Orient during Saturday's match, officials of the football club have been in contact with Leyton Orient and are seeking to cooperate fully with any investigation that may follow.

"We have yet to receive any reports, but if and when any evidence and information is passed on to the club, it will be assessed with the greatest scrutiny."

The statement stressed that Luton "do not condone any kind of discriminatory chanting or comments from our supporters, and any serious abuse will be dealt with. As a club we totally abhor any kind of discriminatory behaviour."

Orient, who lost the game 2-1, issued a statement on Saturday saying: "We were made aware of [anti-gay] chanting from sections of the Luton Town fans and will be dealing with it retrospectively. All information will be passed on to Luton Town."

The London club said they were reviewing CCTV footage of the incident and would "be sharing all relevant information with Luton Town in order to identify any offenders."
