Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp on offside call vs. Arsenal: 'We made more mistakes than the refs'

Jurgen Klopp disagreed with the decision to disallow Sadio Mane's goal for Liverpool against Arsenal on Saturday evening but said he cannot complain about leaving the Emirates Stadium with a point in hand.

Alexandre Lacazette's strike eight minutes from time denied Liverpool the three points at Arsenal after James Milner gave the visitors the lead in the 61st minute.

Liverpool thought they had broken the deadlock through Mane in the 18th minute, until the linesman raised his flag as Mane was adjudged to have been offside on the rebound from Roberto Firmino's shot that hit the post.

"I think we made more mistakes than the refs, but in this situation, it would have been cool if this goal would have count," Klopp told BT Sport. "It would have been a very good moment, going [in] 1-0 [up] at half-time.

"In the second half, you saw how good we were then with a slightly-changed formation -- in the counter-attacks especially. That would have [been] enough.

"For us, it's not really possible to come and dominate Arsenal like we want. When we had the ball it was absolutely OK, we could have done better but it's always like this. Now it's a point and that will always be a success at Arsenal."

On the linesman's decision, Klopp said: "There's only one person who can answer the question -- that's the linesman. Nobody else can say anything about that.

"For me, that's football. It means you bring two players. You have one player in the slightly-offside position and then the other one takes the ball. That's football all over the world. If he sees it like that then good. Then it was not offside. The second situation wasn't offside. Maybe he thought: 'I wait until they score.' Ask him."

The draw does see Liverpool return to the top of the Premier League and maintain their unbeaten start to the league season, although Manchester City can open up a two-point gap at the summit if they beat Southampton on Sunday.

Liverpool were under pressure for large parts of the encounter with Unai Emery's side until a formation switch at half-time saw them establish more control.

"We are not compact enough," Klopp said. "We have to do it better. We have to prepare the pressing better. You cannot [press] because someone is asking you -- it doesn't work. You need a formation for that. We didn't have that often enough.

"But when we played, we were really dangerous. Mo [Salah] played a really, really good game and was a proper threat over the whole game. We had these situations in the box and we didn't finish.

"Set pieces were part of the game and I think these were the biggest chances and we could have scored. Yes, I was not happy with the first half."
