Liverpool's Loris Karius slams critics after Dortmund loss; Mohamed Salah offers support

Jurgen Klopp doesn't know if Christian Pulisic will ever join him at Liverpool, but he thinks Dortmund is a good place for the American to develop.

CHARLOTTE -- Loris Karius has used Instagram to hit out at people who "take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer."

Karius posted the message on Instagram shortly after he played the entirety of Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte on Sunday.

The goalkeeper has been under intense scrutiny so far this preseason following his two costly errors in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid back in May, and he was the subject of more criticism for his performance against Dortmund.

"To those who take joy in seeing other people fail or suffer, I feel for you," he wrote after the game. "Whatever it is that's happening in your life to hold this much anger and hate, I pray that it passes and good things come to you."

Incidentally, Formula One star Lewis Hamilton posted the same quote on Instagram on Saturday after he suffered a setback during qualifying of the German Grand Prix.

On Monday, Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah offered his support to Karius with a message on Twitter.

"Stay strong Karius, it has happened to the best of players. Ignore those who hate.@LorisKarius," Salah posted.

On Sunday, Karius was fortunate not to concede a goal in the first half when he rushed off his line to clear the ball, only for it to go straight towards Maximilian Philipp, who fired wide from long range.

And in stoppage time, Karius could only parry a soft shot from Christian Pulisic into the path of Jacob Bruun Larsen for Dortmund's third goal.

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas came to Karius' defence earlier in the evening.

"Will this attack @LorisKarius ever end? I'm talking about him like so many other goalkeepers," the former Spain No. 1 wrote on Twitter. "There are many more serious problems in the world, f***! Leave the kid alone! He's also a person. As we all are!"

Liverpool last week completed the signing of Alisson from Roma for £65 million -- the highest ever transfer fee for a goalkeeper.
