Liverpool star Mohamed Salah becomes first to win Player of Month hat trick

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been named Premier League Player of the Month for March, becoming the first player to win the award three times in one season after his previous wins in November and February.

Salah is enjoying a record-breaking debut season, having scored 39 goals in all competitions, and one more goal will make him the first Liverpool player since Ian Rush in 1986-87 to reach the 40-goal mark.

He was on target of both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal win over Manchester City that set up a semifinal showdown with Serie A club Roma.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club's website that Salah fully merited his hat trick of awards.

"It's deserved -- it's not that you think: 'Wow, how did that happen?'" he said.

"He is an outstanding player and we played a really good season, but he is in all the decisions -- in decisive moments, he is involved.

"Either he makes a cross or he scores the goal ... he is really very often involved. He gives us all a good feeling, so everybody is really happy for him.

"I don't think that he has always overperformed, but when he is on the pitch he is always a goal threat and that helps us a lot, for sure."
