Loris Karius: Liverpool are a threat to win the Champions League

Loris Karius believes Liverpool are a threat going into the Champions League quarterfinals and beyond after they knocked Porto out of the round of 16 on Tuesday.

Karius made just one save in the goalless draw at home to Porto on Tuesday that secured Liverpool's progress to the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in nine years.

And Liverpool are particularly strong at Anfield, where Klopp has lost just two of his 23 European matches, scoring 51 goals in that time.

"I don't think anyone would be happy to come here," Karius told the club's website. "We know that. But it doesn't really matter who the next team is. If you want to win this competition, you have to come up against them eventually.

"We'll take it as it comes, but I don't think anyone wants us."

Karius was Klopp's choice for European matches from the start of the season -- before his promotion to full-time No. 1 in January -- and has conceded just six Champions League goals in eight matches, the best record in the competition.

He said he has grown more confident since being installed as Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper by manager Jurgen Klopp in January but admitted he still has plenty of improvements to make.

"Of course I'm confident," Karius said. "We're playing well and getting good results, so there's no reason not to be confident.

"But you can't rest on that. You have to show it week in, week out. I want to develop more, get better every week and have good games for the club. Hopefully, it's only the beginning."

The clean sheet was Karius' fifth in his last seven appearances and 10th in 19 matches this season, justifying Klopp's decision to make the change.

"It was an aim for us, to build on the recent form of not conceding many goals and having a lot of clean sheets," Karius said. "That's always a good thing for me and for the whole team.

"Ninety percent of the time, if we keep a clean sheet, we win the game because we score up front."

Dejan Lovren, meanwhile, also believes the club have every chance of adding to their five European Cups.

"We are ready for everything," Lovren told Liverpool's website. "Whoever comes, we are ready to fight," he said.

"I think if we are ready and prepared to fight until the end, I am a big believer that we can see ourselves into the final."

Liverpool head to Manchester United on Saturday in the battle to be the Premier League's best of the rest behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

"It will be a massive game -- one of the biggest games in Europe," Lovren said. "It will be a tough game and let's see what will happen, but we are full of confidence and it will be a big fight for second place."
