Liverpool's Dejan Lovren reveals threat to family made on social media

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has labelled threats against his family made on social media as "disgusting."

Lovren posted a screenshot of a private message sent to him in an Instagram story, in which the sender said they would "murder" the Croatia international's family.

The centre-back was heavily criticised for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, where he was taken off after 31 minutes in the 4-1 defeat at Wembley.

Responding to the threat on his Instagram story, Lovren posted: "Horrible what kind of people we have...

"I don't mind when people talk s--- about me, its [sic] says more about them!

"But I can not ignore when my family is threatened. I just can't and won't accept that. Disgusting."

Prior to Liverpool's match against Huddersfield Town, which Lovren pulled out of due to an injury suffered in the warm-up, manager Jurgen Klopp reminded reporters at a news conference that footballers are human beings first and foremost.

"Look, I don't wish on one of you that all your mistakes are discussed in public," Klopp said.

"The boys, in the first case, are still human beings. It's kind of like watching an accident and there are people standing around with smartphones instead of helping -- I am not this kind of person.

"We had a normal week and, of course, it was not the nicest week in Dejan's life, but at the end, it's only football.

"We have to know about this and people don't become a better or worse person after making a mistake in a football game so that's how it is."
