Roberto Firmino: Liverpool must fight for title in season without favourite

Roberto Firmino has said Liverpool must challenge for the Premier league title this season, adding that he does not believe there is a clear favourite for the crown.

Liverpool face Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, having taken four points from their opening two matches against Watford and Crystal Palace.

They secured qualification for the Champions League group stage with a 6-3 aggregate win over Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last week.

And Brazil international Firmino told the Mirror: "We must at least repeat our performance of last year by finishing in the top four, and then fight for the title.

"The team is also very motivated by the experience of being back in the Champions League. The target is to finish in the best possible position -- and we are aiming high.

"I think we have a chance because the Premier League is a very open competition this year.

"For me, there doesn't exist an out-and-out favourite. All the squads have improved but there isn't one single 'super team' and everybody will believe they have a chance."

Firmino said Liverpool needed to be strong at home throughout the season, making Anfield "an impossible place for rivals to visit."

He added: "You can see it will be a closer title race than in the past. So we need to take our opportunity."
