Jurgen Klopp: Danny Ward in contention for Liverpool No. 1 spot

Jurgen Klopp has hinted at a three-way battle for Liverpool's starting goalkeeper spot this summer, with Danny Ward returning to the club following his successful loan spell at Huddersfield Town.

Simon Mignolet was the starter for the majority of last season after summer signing Loris Karius failed to nail down the No. 1 jersey following a number of high-profile errors.

Meanwhile, Ward, 24, is now back at Liverpool this summer, having played a pivotal role in Huddersfield's promotion to the Premier League last term.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner has said Ward will not be returning to the Yorkshire club as Klopp wants to take a look at the Wales international.

Klopp told the club's official website: "That's very comfortable for the manager -- three really good goalkeepers.

"It is like it is and nothing is decided. They can all show how good they are. I don't want to bring doubt so that they start doubting.

"They are at a fantastic club and a fantastic football club needs fantastic goalkeepers. We had a really good goalkeeping season.

"Yes, it was a little bit difficult for Loris but I'm sure he had his part in the development of Simon, who played a really good season. And Danny played a fantastic season at Huddersfield with a big success at the end.

"We have three goalkeepers and they can all show what they are able to do, and then we will see who will start."

Meanwhile, Karius says he wants to "prove himself" this season and win back the starting spot from Mignolet.

Speaking last month, Karius' agent, Florian Goll, said his client would not be leaving Anfield this summer and was to fight for his place.

"I didn't have an easy first season with a bit of a struggle and injuries," Karius said. "Now I want to prove myself, do better than last season and win the shirt back.

"It was a new experience for me, with a lot to learn. Even in the negative spell, I took positives out of it and learned a lot that was new to me. I feel strong mentally and also on the pitch. I want to prove myself.

"It's good to have competition and good for the club to have three strong goalkeepers. I'm sure we'll try to push each other in training. Everyone will try to be at their best."
