Steven Gerrard set for first Liverpool under-18s game vs. Burton Albion

Steven Gerrard will take charge of his first game as a manager next Friday as Liverpool under-18s take on Burton Albion in a friendly.

Gerrard, who took charge of the U18s for the first time on Monday, will take his young side to St George's Park for a warm-up match as preparations begin for the 2017-18 campaign.

The game is scheduled for a 12 p.m. BST kickoff on July 14 and is a behind-closed-doors fixture, meaning supporters are not permitted to watch.

Gerrard welcomed Liverpool's youngsters to the club's Kirkby academy for the start of preseason training on Monday.

The former Liverpool first-team captain says he "can't wait" for his first competitive game as he kick-starts his managerial career following his retirement as a player back in November.

"It's exciting," Gerrard told the club's official website. "I'd been waiting for this all through the summer and had one eye on it while I've been having a bit of a break. It's here now and I'm really excited about getting my teeth into it.

"Ninety-five percent of the planning was done at the back end of last year. I did a lot of planning with [academy director] Alex [Inglethorpe], he's been a big help for me to get sorted for today.

"I feel ready, we're organised and I've got a fantastic staff around me. We just can't wait for the first game of the season now."
