Liverpool's Adam Lallana set to miss derby amid reports of four-week layoff

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is a doubt for the Merseyside derby at home to Everton after suffering a thigh injury on England duty, a source has told ESPN FC.

Some reports suggested the midfielder could face a month on the sidelines, but the source said the club had yet to set a timescale for his return.

Lallana played in Wednesday's 1-0 friendly defeat to Germany and Sunday's World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania at Wembley.

The 28-year-old took a kick during the 2-0 win but completed the full 90 minutes, having played 66 minutes against Germany.

Liverpool hope Jordan Henderson will have recovered from a foot problem in time for Everton's visit.

The captain has missed the last four games but travelled with the squad to a recent warm weather training camp in Spain as part of his rehabilitation.

Lallana has been an important player for Liverpool this season, thriving in a central midfield role.

He has made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.

Reports said he had missed training on Tuesday as Liverpool stepped up preparations for the derby, sparking fears of an injury problem.

Lallana missed three matches after returning from international duty with a groin injury in November.

If reports that he will be out for a month are correct, he will miss home games against Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace and away fixtures against Stoke and West Bromwich Albion.
