Luis Figo regrets not playing alongside Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

Luis Figo considers it a "pity" that he never got the chance to play with Steven Gerrard during his career.

Gerrard stayed at Liverpool for almost all of his playing career but was subject to interest from Real Madrid in the summer of 2004.

However, Figo believes the former Liverpool captain would have fitted in well at the Bernabeu alongside their Galacticos.

When asked if he would have liked to see Gerrard in Spain, the former Ballon d'Or winner said: "The moment in life when we had the possibility to play together, that wasn't possible.

"I think it is a pity because everyone wants to play with the best.

"I think Gerrard showed in his career he was one of the best footballers in his position. It was a pity but for Liverpool it was lucky because he could show his quality and talent here, at Anfield."

Gerrard, who recently returned to the Merseyside outfit as an academy coach, starred in a Liverpool Legends game against Real Madrid over the weekend, facing Figo, Roberto Carlos and Michel Salgado in front of a sell-out Anfield.
