Dejan Lovren plays 75 minutes for Liverpool under-23s

BIRKENHEAD, England -- Dejan Lovren returned from injury with an appearance for the Liverpool under-23s on Monday night.

Lovren featured for 75 minutes in the U23's 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Prenton Park in the Premier League 2, with first-team manager Jurgen Klopp in attendance.

The centre-half has been battling a recurring knee problem recently and last featured for Klopp's side in late January.

After visiting Germany for further consultation on his injury, Lovren has since resumed full training but he was absent from the matchday sqaud in Liverpool's 2-1 over Burnley on Sunday.

U23s interim manager Mike Garrity said after the match that he only found out early on Monday morning that Lovren would be featuring for his side.

"He was fine," Garrity said. "I think he could have completed the full game if he wanted to. But we were happy to get to 75 and he was happy with that.

"He looked strong and his authority and experience was really nice for the boys out there.

"[I found out he would be playing] this morning. It is what it is. But it's nice for him because he obviously wants to get back in the frame and wants to put himself in front of the manager and tell him he's fit. He's obviously showed that."

Goals from captain Harry Wilson and Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the young Reds pick up three points at the home of Tranmere Rovers.
