Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said he is unsure whether Emre Can's long-term future lies at Anfield. Germany midfielder Can scored the winning goal in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Burnley with a powerful long-range effort. But he will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that negotiations have stalled. A source has told ESPN FC that Liverpool are keen to agree a new deal for Can. But the Daily Mirror reported Carragher as saying: "Can's big problem is that I don't think he's a versatile player but he's played in four or five positions for Liverpool. "The only position I think he can play is the one he played [against Burnley], the sitting midfielder, because he needs legs around him. But Jurgen Klopp is playing Jordan Henderson ahead of him. "Now, he's got a contract situation at the moment. Is he going to sign it? "There is a good chance he may not be here next season. I don't see, when the first XI is picked, where else he can play except that role." Meanwhile, Can said he felt he had marked the end of a difficult spell with a lingering calf problem. "I know I had a very tough period, I had not too much confidence in the last few weeks and it was not my best performance," he told the club's official website. "But I had the feeling I would come back, I had the feeling that I was getting strong again. "I know what I am able to do when I am fit, when I'm pain-free."
