Jordan Henderson backs Liverpool to bounce back after Swansea loss

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has backed his side to recover from their shock defeat to struggling Swansea at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds' only win of 2017 so far came against League Two side Plymouth in an FA Cup replay, and the 3-2 defeat to the Swans showed a squad apparently struggling to cope with fatigue.

Jurgen Klopp's side have already played six matches this month and have three more to come -- an EFL Cup semifinal second leg against Southampton, an FA Cup tie at home to Wolves and the visit of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

With their unbeaten home league record, stretching back almost a year, having been ended by Swansea, Liverpool's next three matches -- all in front of their own fans -- will be a test of their mettle.

But Henderson said: "One defeat doesn't make you a bad team, and we've still got a lot of confidence in the squad.

"But it's how you react after defeats, that's how you can show character, show your spirit and show how good you are as a team in the game after.

"The next game is very important for us, and we need to react in the right way."

Former Sunderland midfielder Henderson said "no one knows" how much of an impact the defeat could have on Liverpool's title aspirations.

He added: "We still feel very confident as a team. We've got brilliant players, and we just need to keep going the way we have.

"But there were a lot of mistakes out there, and we have to make sure that in the next game we put in a better performance and get a better result."

Liverpool fell two goals behind to Fernando Llorente brace just after half-time but responded through two Roberto Firmino strikes before Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the winner.

"It was obvious we didn't have much luck," Klopp said. "We showed again that when we are really on track then we are a strong side and create chances and can score goals.''
