Philippe Coutinho returns to training with Liverpool after ankle injury

Liverpool have been given a huge boost after Philippe Coutinho was pictured back in first-team training.

Coutinho has been out injured since suffering ankle ligament damage in the home win over Sunderland in November.

The Brazilian forward took part in a session at the club's Melwood training complex on Friday as he stepped up his recovery in the hope of being fit for next week's Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He had initially hoped he could make a return for the New Year's Eve game against Manchester City at Anfield.

Speaking at a news conference on Friday morning, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ruled the 24-year-old out of Sunday's FA Cup tie against Plymouth Argyle but said he was in a "very good way."

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge was also pictured taking part in the training session and looks to have overcome a knock to his right ankle.

The striker was an injury concern after limping off in Monday's 2-2 draw at Sunderland and had been unable to train in the past week.
