Liverpool striker Danny Ings begins rehabilitation after knee operation

Liverpool striker Danny Ings has returned to the training ground to begin rehabilitation work after surgery on his knee.

The striker has been ruled out for the rest of the after suffering cartilage damage in his right knee during last month's EFL Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Ings underwent an operation in London, and manager Jurgen Klopp said the surgery had been "very positive."

Liverpool confirmed that the 24-year-old returned to Melwood on Wednesday as he begins his recovery.

The former Burnley player is expected to be sidelined for between seven and nine months, with the setback coming just over a year after an ACL tear in his left knee ruled him out for the majority of last season.

Klopp told reporters on Friday that Ings would "100 percent" be a Liverpool player when he returned.

"The most important thing to say -- and that's the moment when the club and the team really have to show how strong we are -- is we will wait for him," he said.

"We will give him all the time he needs and then he will be back again and he will be a Liverpool player, 100 percent.

"Everything will be good in the end but now it's time to work on the comeback."
