Simon Mignolet hoping for Liverpool return against Manchester United

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is hoping to earn a recall to the starting XI for Monday night's Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Mignolet, 28, has lost the No. 1 jersey to summer signing Loris Karius for the past three games, having started the campaign between the sticks while the German was out nursing a broken hand sustained during preseason.

Karius' return to full fitness saw Jurgen Klopp name him as the starting goalkeeper for the games against Derby County, Hull City and Swansea City, but the Reds boss was adamant that the role was still open for competition.

"I didn't play the last two weeks and I don't want it to be any longer," Mignolet is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo. "I look at it positively. I hope to play against United. I still feel confident because of my good league start. Against Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester I have been important for the team by making some good saves.

"I have the advantage that the game against United is only Monday so I can have a full preparation. I don't know what the coach will decide. I can just prepare myself 100 percent. Whether I play or not, nothing will change my match preparation. It is not in my character to not give 100 percent."

Mignolet admits he has found life hard being named amongst the substitutes and is determined to get back into the first team.

"Every time you sit on the bench it hurts," Mignolet said. "I'm also a lot more nervous on the bench than on the pitch. But the intention is to play again as soon as possible.

"The important thing is that I try to handle to situation the best I can. I think my response has been positive. It was also appreciated by the supporters. I hope to win my place back as soon as possible."
