Liverpool have revealed that decision to revert the colour of the goal nets at Anfield back to white was taken by manager Jurgen Klopp in order to aid his players' shooting accuracy.
Klopp and his backroom team asked the ground staff at Anfield to change the nets from red to white after the team trained at the stadium on Thursday evening to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings following the expansion of the Main Stand.
According to an article on the club's official website, the Reds boss felt the red nets are not as striking to the eye for his players with the majority of supporters behind both goals wearing red.
The change was made in time for Saturday's kickoff against Leicester City so the goals would be more visible in players' peripheral vision.
Klopp's predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, requested back in 2012 that Anfield restored its use of red nets in an attempt to remind the players and fans of the club's history.
Liverpool last changed from red to white netting in 1995 under Roy Evans as his side also felt it was difficult to see the net in front of the backdrop of the Kop.
