Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has successful surgery on hand

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has confirmed that an operation on his broken hand was a success.

A source told ESPN FC on Saturday that Karius will miss at least two months of action after breaking his hand in Liverpool's friendly with Chelsea in the United States.

The German keeper returned to the United Kingdom early from the club's U.S. tour for treatment on his injured hand, which occurred after a collision with teammate Dejan Lovren.

The £4.7 million summer signing from Mainz tweeted a picture of his bandaged hand with the message: "I'm back at home after a successful surgery! Thank you guys for all your get-well wishes!"

Karius, who is expected to be out for eight to 10 weeks, was brought in to compete with Simon Mignolet for the starting spot at Anfield.

He turned down a chance to appear at the Rio Olympics this summer in order to show manager Jurgen Klopp just how much he wanted the No. 1 jersey.

Alex Manninger will now deputise for Mignolet in Karius' absence. The 39-year-old, who arrived at the club this summer on a free transfer after his contract at Augsburg had expired, made his Reds debut in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Roma on Monday.
