Sturridge, Wijnaldum to start for Liverpool in ICC friendly vs. AC Milan

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge and Georginio Wijnaldum are set to start Saturday's game with AC Milan, a club source told ESPN FC.

Sturridge missed Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Chelsea at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena as a precaution and stayed behind at the club's training base in Palo Alto, California to complete extra training sessions.

And there will also be a Liverpool debut for Wijnaldum following his £25 million move from Newcastle earlier this month.

The Dutch international also sat out the International Champions Cup match in midweek as he continued his fitness programme to reach the desired levels after joining the squad midway through the summer.

Speaking at a news conference at Levi's Stadium on Friday, Wijnaldum was excited at the prospect of making his first appearance for his new team.

"It's always great when you get to show what you can do," he said. "This is a club with a great history which has won a lot of titles and I can't wait to get started.

"I was a bit disappointed I didn't play against Chelsea but the staff decided it would be better for me to complete more training sessions first. Now I am looking forward to making my debut."

Liverpool take on the Italian side at the home of the San Francisco 49ers in their second International Champions Cup fixture of the summer.
