Liverpool have approached manager Jurgen Klopp about extending his contract, a source has revealed to ESPN FC.
Fenway Sports Group, the club's owners, want to extend Klopp's stay on Merseyside in recognition of the faith and confidence they have in him.
In his first season managing the Reds, Klopp guided the Premier League side to appearances in the Capital One Cup and Europa League finals, along with an eighth-placed finish in the league.
FSG are delighted with what the German has achieved at Anfield already in his brief spell as manager and feel the club is on the right path to success under him.
The 49-year-old signed a three-year contract, with the option of an extra year, when he replaced Brendan Rodgers in October and Liverpool are keen to tie down the services of the charismatic manager for the long-term future.
In May, Klopp revealed how he likes to work at clubs for a lengthy period.
He said: "Seven years in Liverpool hopefully. Maybe you know better what people think when I joined the club. I am not sure about it, but for me it's the only way to work to be honest.
"I don't feel the pressure. I cannot change. I feel opportunity. I feel the pressure of the game and developing players. I don't think I have all the time in the world but I don't think I've ever felt doubt around me.
"If that's right I don't know but it makes me completely free to make decisions and for my team and myself to be free to develop together.
"What can I say? Yeah, my former clubs all wanted to extend contracts before I thought about leaving.
"Maybe it's a long time with Liverpool I don't know, but nobody should think about three years, we want to use the momentum."
