Liverpool not ruling out switching Burnley fixture to be played away

Liverpool are not ruling out switching their first home game of the 2016-17 season to be played away from Anfield in order to complete their renovation work, Press Association Sport reports.

Liverpool are set to host Burnley on Aug 20. in their first home game of the season, but doubts remain as to whether or not renovation work to the Main Stand of Anfield will be complete in time.

However, the Merseyside club are confident their stadium improvements will be complete in time, but contingencies to play away from home -- which were put in place months ago -- still remain.

Liverpool are not ruling out the option of asking to switch to Turf Moor if they feel they require extra time to sign off any issues, but PA Sport understands Anfield can be ready to host the match on the second weekend of the season if needed.

As yet there has been no contact with Burnley about a request to switch the fixture to an away game for Jurgen Klopp's side.

If Liverpool were to play their Burnley fixture away from home, their first game back at Anfield would be against reigning champions Leicester on Sept. 10.
