Peter Krawietz confident of bringing long-term success to Liverpool

Liverpool assistant manager Peter Krawietz is confident the club is making good progress, despite defeat in the Europa League final making it a disappointing end to the season.

The Reds led 1-0 at half-time of the final and looked in good shape to win but eventually went down 3-1 to Sevilla who won the title for a third year in a row.

But Krawietz, who has worked alongside Jurgen Klopp at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund as well as at Liverpool, told kicker lots of positive changes have taken place since their arrival at the club in October.

He said: "We were disappointed after that final, because we played a second half which wasn't on the necessary level.

"But overall the feedback we got is that many things have changed for the better, and that many players have taken a positive development. Thus we are on the right path."

Next term, Liverpool will not take part in any European competition and Krawietz believes it could prove beneficial to their long-term chances of success.

"We can use the training weeks we gain by not playing in Europe to develop the team. We believe in training," Krawietz said.

He cited attack as one position that is in need of work, explaining deficiencies that led to Liverpool losing against Sevilla.

"We were punished in the final against Sevilla," he said. "We sometimes attacked [the opponent] too early, sometimes too late and sometimes not all. We have to and we want to achieve progress here. And in the attacking department we need to carve out more clearly whose strength is where."

Two members of Bayern Munich's backroom staff, nutritionist Mona Nemmer and fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer will join the club this summer alongside Bundesliga players Joel Matip and Loris Karius, but Krawietz played down the influx of Germans at Anfield.

He said: "The idea is expertise. We try to meet the modern requirements, to be well positioned and guarantee individual care at the highest level."
