Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp won't rest stars before Europa League final

Jurgen Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo he has "no idea" who will make the starting XI for the Europa League final and that he does not plan to rest his key names in the final two Premier League games.

Liverpool face Sevilla in the Europa League final on May 18 but must first play their final two Premier League games of the campaign, with Chelsea visiting Anfield on Wednesday before the Reds head to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The Europa League represents a chance for Klopp to secure his first trophy with Liverpool and the added bonus of Champions League qualification, which is no longer possible via the league.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund boss dismissed the idea he could field second-string teams against Chelsea and West Brom, and stressed that he is still looking to assess which players merit a place in the team in Basel.

"Of course there are places available," Klopp said. "Who knows who is going to be in the lineup next Wednesday? I have no idea.

"Hopefully we will have more players coming back and then we will have a really difficult choice to make, but I haven't thought for one second yet about the lineup for Sevilla.

"You cannot say, 'We will hold players back for the final.' We have to take what we can get from our last two league games and then we will see."

Following the 3-0 win over Villarreal last Thursday, Klopp made eight changes to his side for the 2-0 victory over Watford on Sunday, which kept their chances of Europa League qualification on track.

He added: "Not one of the players who was rested on Sunday because of the intensity of Thursday night was like: 'Yesssssss! How cool is this! Let me stay at home.'

"Instead they were like: 'What? Why me?' They all wanted to play: [Adam] Lallana, Emre [Can], Dejan [Lovren], blah, blah, blah. All these guys. That's a good situation.

"I don't want to create a pressure and say, 'Come on, show me you are ready for the final.'

"We will just see how things are over the coming days, how everyone is, and then we will make a decision for Chelsea, then for West Brom and then hopefully with the whole squad together for the final."

Philippe Coutinho has started the last four games but Klopp rejected the idea that he should be offering the Brazilian greater protection with the final looming.

"Phil started on Sunday because we thought about the general situation with injuries and how it was in the previous games," he said. "Philippe only played 45 minutes at Swansea. It wasn't a difficult decision.

"At the moment Phil looks very good. He's in very good shape. He's a very important player for us.

"We don't think about risk -- we just need to play football. If I thought about risk then we would leave everyone at home and put out a lineup with I don't know who. That's not how it works."
