Liverpool marked the momentous Hillsborough inquest verdicts with a special rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" ahead of their Europa League semifinal second-leg win against Villarreal on Thursday.
In a change from the usual Gerry Marsden version being played over Anfield's public address system, the club invited the anthem to be sung by a local choir -- joined by the majority of the 44,000-capacity crowd.
A mosaic proclaiming "The Greatest Family" wrapped itself around the inside of the ground starting at the Anfield Road End, traversing the Centenary Stand and finishing on the Kop.
A panel on the inside of the matchday programme offered thanks to the Hillsborough families.
"In this most extraordinary of seasons the families of the 96 Liverpool supporters who died at Hillsborough, along with those who survived, have made the most remarkable achievement,'' it read.
"After 27 years, against all odds, their courage, resilience and above all love never wavered and last week the Hillsborough inquests returned a determination of unlawful killing of the 96 on April 15, 1989.
"The city of Liverpool and the football family has been overwhelmed by the subsequent response, at home and abroad, and wishes to thank everyone -- particularly the great family of Liverpool FC fans, and also the staff and supporters of Everton FC -- for their compassion and solidarity in recent times and over these long years.
"Above all it is the families of the 96 to whom this city owes the greatest debt. Their conduct throughout this prolonged process has been truly inspirational and for that we should all feel extremely proud.
"You'll Never Walk Alone.''
Liverpool went on to win the game against Villarreal 3-0 at Anfield and will now meet Sevilla in the Europa League final on May 18.
