Liverpool's Dejan Lovren to have scan after injury against West Brom

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful the injury Dejan Lovren sustained against West Brom is not serious as the club await the results of a scan on the defender's knee.

Lovren, 26, was substituted in the 79th minute of Liverpool's late 2-2 draw at home to West Brom after a challenge by Craig Gardner.

The Croatia defender left the field on a stretcher, and Klopp said in his postmatch news conference: "We don't know too much about it. It's a cut, as everybody could see in the dressing room.

"We hope it's not too serious, but we have to wait for the scan. We have to wait overnight to see if it becomes swollen or not.

"I spoke to him and he felt not too bad. I saw the situation and anything could happen in that situation.

"Hopefully we'll have a little bit more luck than in previous situations like this -- but we have to wait."

After not shaking hands with West Brom manager Tony Pulis, Klopp said: "I didn't see him after the game. I can say nothing. We had some words in the game; sometimes it takes more than a few seconds to cool down.

"Usually I shake hands, I did not today because it was not a friendly game."

Regarding Gardner's tackle on Lovren, Pulis said: "The two worst challenges in the game are [James] Milner's challenge on Gardner and Skrtel's challenge on Salomon [Rondon]. Gardner has played the ball.

"The others, Skrtel has gone right over the ball."

Liverpool are ninth in the Premier League table after their point against West Brom and are next in action at Watford on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has said he is not far off a return to the first team after resuming training on Friday.
