Carlo Ancelotti: I had no approach from Liverpool about manager's job

Carlo Ancelotti has told Goal.com he was not approached about taking the manager's job at Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp was appointed.

Klopp signed a three-year deal to replace the sacked Brendan Rodgers earlier this month and began his reign with a 0-0 Premier League draw at Tottenham on Saturday.

Liverpool considered a move for Ancelotti, who is taking a sabbatical as he recovers from back surgery after leaving Real Madrid in May.

Klopp, however, was their first choice for the job, despite claims by former Tottenham and QPR manager Harry Redknapp that the Reds would have preferred the Italian and had offered him the job.

Ancelotti, though, insisted he did not receive any approach, saying: "With Liverpool, there was no contact.

"When a job becomes available, they always use the names of the coaches currently without a team, so my name was thrown out there.

"But I never had any direct contact with the directors of Liverpool."
