Liverpool, Newcastle are 'fantastic' coaching environments - Frank de Boer

Ajax manager Frank de Boer has said he's ready for another adventure, while adding that Premier League clubs Liverpool and Newcastle would be great environments in which to coach.

That might come as unwelcome news for Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers and Newcastle's Steve McClaren, as both managers are under pressure at the moment with their teams underperforming. Liverpool are ninth in the league table, while Newcastle are in 19th with no wins from seven games so far this season.

De Boer, who led Ajax to four consecutive Eredivisie titles from 2010-14, was a possible replacement for Kenny Dalglish for the top job at Anfield in 2012 before Rodgers took the role.

"Liverpool and Newcastle, with the supporters behind them, are fantastic environments to coach in," De Boer said in the Mirror. "But this year it is important for me to do well at Ajax and then we will see.

"I'm looking maybe for another adventure. If there is an interesting club that I think with my quality I can make that team better, if I can then I will take that chance."

De Boer admitted that he feels his Premier League bow as a manager is not far off, saying, "Yes, I think every year it comes closer of course."

Former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is another name that has surfaced in connection with the Liverpool job if and when Rodgers is sacked. Klopp's agent confirmed that the German is keen to return to coaching by next summer at the latest.

Rodgers and Liverpool are back in action on Sunday in the Merseyside Derby with Everton after a disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw midweek versus Swedish club FC Sion.
