Brendan Rodgers: 'I'm never going to walk away' from Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers has no intention of turning his back on Liverpool, despite the Reds' poor start to the 2015-16 season.

The Merseyside manager has been under fire after seeing his side stumble out of the blocks this campaign, only to see the heat increase after they needed penalties to sneak past tiny Carlisle United in their Capital One Cup tie on Wednesday.

And while the former Swansea boss remains hopeful of reaching a Premier League milestone with his current club, he remains realistic that may not be the case given the current climate at Anfield.

"No, no. No chance. No. I want to be a manager and the target in my own mind is to get to 1,000 games.

"I would love that to be here [with Liverpool], but I'm a realist -- I've got realism in my professional life and I know to get there you are looking at 20-odd years, and I may have another five or six jobs to do it," Rodgers said on Friday.

"Whilst I'm here, I'll always do the best I can."

Rodgers has had to deal with claims that three-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti had been approached about the possibility of taking over his job. While speculation also surrounds Jurgen Klopp.

However, in the face of it all, Rodgers is steadfast that he won't be voluntarily vacating his post if the time for a change does come.

"I'm never going to walk away because I'll always have belief that I can improve players and make things better."
