Liverpool must stick with Brendan Rodgers, says Jamie Carragher

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Brendan Rodgers must be given more time as pressure grows on the club's manager.

Liverpool find themselves languishing in 13th place in the Premier League with two wins to their name after the first six matches, and could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Norwich City on Sunday. They have now not won since Aug. 17.

The club decided to stick with Rodgers in the summer and instead rebuild the backroom staff, with Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh replaced by Sean O'Driscoll and Gary McAllister. Pepijn Lijnders was also promoted from the Academy to first-team duties.

Rodgers also embarked on squad rebuilding, with Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli, Raheem Sterling, Sebastian Coates, Steven Gerrard, Rickie Lambert, Andre Wisdom and Lazar Markovic all departing. In came Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim for £28 million along with Danny Ings, James Milner, Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez.

Carragher insists that the boss must be given time to work with his new staff and players before the club think about making a change.

Carragher told Sky Sports: "They decided to give him the benefit of the doubt at the start of the summer. If you give him that much money, then after eight or nine games why make the change?

"In their last 18 games, they haven't scored more than one goal and that's the problem for a manager who is attack-minded like Brendan Rodgers."

Liverpool entertain Carlisle United in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday and then face Aston Villa, FC Sion and Everton before the international break.
