Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge could play against Manchester United - sources

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a hip injury and could be ready to return after the next international break, sources have told ESPN FC.

The striker is set to resume training at the club's Melwood base by the end of this month.

It means there is a chance Sturridge could return to action when the Reds visit Manchester United in the Premier League on Sep. 12.

The 25-year-old has spent the summer recuperating in the United States after undergoing surgery on his torn hip muscle.

He will not be ready to play in England's next two Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino on Sept. 5 and Switzerland three days later.

But if his recovery continues to go well, he should available to face United at Old Trafford the following weekend.

Sturridge made only seven Premier League starts last season because of a series of injuries, and did not play for Liverpool at all between the end of August 2014 and the end of January 2015 after suffering two thigh problems and a calf injury.

The striker then tore a hip muscle during Liverpool's 2-1 Premier League defeat at home to Manchester United on March 22.

He was able to feature in Liverpool's following two matches, but has not played since.

Sturridge, who posted footage of himself running on his Instagram account last week, is due to return to England this weekend.
