Joe Allen injures hamstring in Liverpool's final friendly, set for scan

Joe Allen will have a scan on his hamstring after lasting just 13 minutes in Liverpool's friendly on Sunday.

Liverpool completed their preseason with a 2-1 win over Swindon Town, but Allen had to be taken off after suffering an early knock.

"I think Joe, [it] was his hamstring, unfortunately, so that doesn't look so good for us," Brendan Rodgers told Liverpool's website.

"But we'll see how that is tomorrow when he has a scan."

Aside from the injury, Rodgers said he was pleased with Liverpool's performance, which was highlighted by Christian Benteke's spectacular volley.

"Christian's goal was incredible, whether it was a preseason friendly or in a league or cup game," Rodgers said. "It was wonderful technique from the big guy.

"The other guys started to get some minutes under their belt; [Roberto] Firmino, Emre Can, boys that have come back a bit later. It was pleasing all round.

"It finished off our preseason preparations -- a number of guys needed a game today. It was a really good exercise."

Rodgers also hailed the play of newcomer Firmino, who played 67 minutes on Sunday.

"You see his quality," Rodgers said. "He is really bright on the ball, has got wonderful technique and has got the ability to want to get forward and score a goal.

"For those players it was just getting them into that game situation, which is never easy as they have only been back a week or so. But they adapted and coped very well."
