James Milner delighted with Liverpool ambition, praises Ibe and Origi

James Milner says he's been made to feel welcome since joining Liverpool, adding that he's been impressed with the level of talent around him in the likes of Jordon Ibe and Divock Origi.

The England international midfielder agreed to move to the Merseyside giants from Manchester City on a free transfer on June 4, barely six weeks ago.

"Yeah it does [feel like I've been here for ages] to be fair," Milner told ESPN FC ahead of Liverpool's friendly match against the Malaysia Selection in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night.

"It's early days but I'm enjoying every minute. I think the boys have done a great job welcoming me in... I feel great already."

Even with only three friendly matches under his belt, the 29-year-old is convinced that he made the right decision to join Brendan Rodgers' side.

"Liverpool is a massive club. It's a great club, and we've got a great young squad here, a great coaching staff and a following all around the world. It's a great place to play football and I'm really looking forward to it.

"The time I've spent here has only been a few weeks but I do feel comfortable and that's the most important thing."

Part of that comfort can be attributed to the fact that Rodgers has been deploying the former City man in the centre of the park -- a position Milner feels that he is most effective in.

"I'm delighted, I love playing in there. I think that's best for my attributes... and where I can play my best football."

With two goals in the pre-season so far, the No. 7 has been at the heart of the Reds' attack, and in a side that lacked goals last season, it's an area the Englishman believes he can assist in.

"That's what I think I can do. I've always managed to work hard on my finishing and I feel I can do that," he said.

"Playing in the middle gives you more opportunity when you're getting chances in front of the goal rather than being wide and shooting across goal and having tough angles."

If Liverpool are to match the expectations of fans and reclaim their place in the Premier League's top four, it's going to take more than just Milner's goals from midfield, but he's convinced there is plenty of talent in his new, young teammates.

"There's a great bunch of lads here and there's a lot of ability, and I think you can see in the younger players as well: The likes of Jordon Ibe... Divock [Origi] has come in and looked sharp, Danny Ings, those guys. I think it's an exciting time for the football club," Milner added before expanding on the potential Ibe possesses, and how he can realise that potential at Anfield.

"I'd obviously seen him last year, [heard about] the hype, and seen him do well. He's got a lot of ability and he's still young, he's learning, but I think with the players he's got around him and the manager -- and the ability he has -- everything's there for him to go on and do well."

With both pundits and fans claiming that Ibe can fill the void left by the departed Raheem Sterling, Milner looked to take some of the pressure off the 19-year-old (who coincidentally shares a birthday with Sterling), hoping that expectations are put into perspective and Ibe is marked on his own, rather than in comparison to Sterling.

"I don't think you want to compare him to other people. He's his own player and he's got ability, and you know Raheem's gone now and we have to move on from that."
