New Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, who joined the club from Bolton on a free transfer, has revealed how pleased he is to be playing at Anfield next season and said he will be pushing to become No. 1.
Bogdan, 27, was out of contract at the Championship club and turned down the offer of a new deal to stay with Neil Lennon's side.
The Hungary international caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers during an FA Cup quarterfinal clash this season with a man-of-the-match display in a goalless draw at Anfield and will now compete with Simon Mignolet for a place in the first-team.
"I'm over the moon, to be fair. It's a massive step in my career and I'm looking to enjoy it," he told the club website. "The first emotions were that I was obviously very happy -- I couldn't sleep for two days. It still hasn't sunk in properly yet. But I'm looking forward to it and I'm really happy."
Having been at Bolton since 2007, the goalkeeper will now be making a step up to the Premier League and European football, and admitted it was a relatively easy decision.
"On one hand, it was an easy decision of course -- I'm playing for one of the most famous, if not the most famous club in the world, playing in Europe and challenging for titles," he said. "But on the other hand, I played for Bolton for eight years; I loved the club and thank them a lot. So that was hard, but not in professional terms."
Belgian keeper Mignolet is likely to start the season as first choice under Brendan Rodgers, but Bogdan plans to push him all the way for a place in the side.
"Of course, I would like to take this opportunity and play as many games as I possibly can, and be a No. 1 keeper for Liverpool," he said. "I think it's a massive challenge.
"I know him as a keeper, I've been watching him and we are a very similar age. I respect him as a keeper. I haven't had a chance to meet him yet, but I'm sure we're going to get along very well and we're going to have a good relationship.
"We're going to compete, of course, that's the nature of this position and the sport. But I'm sure we're going to help each other as well; I have always been very close to the 'keepers I have worked with. It's going to be a big challenge but at the same time we are going to help each other as well.
"To compete with somebody like Simon can only make me better. He sets the bar very high. I hope that can help me with the national team. It's a dream of mine to play for the national team, I have managed to get 19 caps so far and I would like to have more of course. I believe I can."
