Raheem Sterling should stay at Liverpool, says Steven Gerrard

LONDON -- Steven Gerrard has urged his former teammate Raheem Sterling to bring an end to the debate over his future at Liverpool and has warned he may not be a first-team regular if he opts to join another club this summer.

Sterling's future at Anfield is uncertain after his agent said he would not be signing an extension to his current contract which expires in 2017.

"I wish I knew what Raheem was going to do," former Liverpool captain Gerrard said at the launch of BT Sports' European football channel.

"The only two people who know that decision are Raheem himself and his agent. For the player's sake and all his fans out there, he needs to make a decision.

"I hope he stays. For his development as a player, he has a fantastic manager who can look after him and it's important he plays week-in, week-out and tries to develop into a world-class player.

"The frustration for me would be if he goes to another club and became a squad player and didn't get the chance to progress. That is the risk and it was be frustrating to see that."
