Jordan Henderson says there will never be another Steven Gerrard

Jordan Henderson believes the task of replacing Steven Gerrard at Liverpool is too big for any one player and feels the entire team need to chip in and compensate for the departure of their captain.

Gerrard is set to end his 27-year association with Liverpool by joining the Los Angeles Galaxy and played his final match at Anfield on an emotional occasion on Saturday.

Henderson is set to take over the captaincy from the 34-year-old and occupies a role in midfield that Gerrard once played, but rejected talk that anyone can replicate Gerrard's impact.

"I think it will be a huge loss for us not only as a player but a person with his aura around the place," said Henderson. "But it is up to us as a team to step up to the plate and take responsibility, and not one individual."

Since his debut in 1998, Gerrard has scored 185 goals in 709 games for Liverpool, captaining them 472 times and winning 10 trophies.

Gerrard, who also won 114 caps for his country, is a Liverpool fan who started training at their centre of excellence when he was eight and is the only Englishman to score in the finals of the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

"There will never be another player or person like him in terms of everything he stood for and how good he was as a player," Henderson added.

"But I still feel we have a lot of great players here with a lot of potential and we need to start showing that potential next season.

"We have hungry players who want to improve and do well and we have to make sure we are doing that next week and pre-season."
