Brendan Rodgers respects Liverpool fans' Hull ticket price boycott protest

LIVERPOOL -- Brendan Rodgers says he respects the right of Liverpool's fans to boycott Tuesday's Premier League match at Hull City in a protest over ticket prices.

Reds supporters are being charged £50 per seat to watch the game at the KC Stadium.

The Spirit of Shankly fans' group has planned the boycott, pointing out that supporters of Burnley only have to pay £16 to see their team play at Hull on May 9.

Liverpool fans were charged £35 at the KC Stadium last season -- the same price that Everton supporters were charged when their side visited Hull on New Year's Day.

Rodgers said: "I was made aware of the issue. I respect the supporters' right to protest.

"I don't know so much about it. But supporters work very hard to earn the money to get to games, so I respect the right to protest."

Supporters are becoming increasingly frustrated at the cost of match tickets, which continue to rise despite the significant levels of extra money that Premier League clubs have received under successive television contracts.

Fans of Liverpool and Arsenal protested outside the Emirates Stadium before the Premier League match between the two sides on Apr. 4.

They were angered by the fact that seats for the match cost up to £64.

Rodgers, meanwhile, is looking for Liverpool to revive their slim hopes of Champions League qualification when they visit Hull.

The Reds were on course to finish in the Premier League's top four after going 13 games unbeaten between December and March.

But they have collected only four points from their last four league games, and now look likely to finish fifth, in a Europa League qualification spot.

Rodgers' side, who have five matches left, have a game in hand on fourth-placed Manchester United, but seven points to make up.

The manager added: "We've set our goals for the remainder of the season and it's about focusing on our performance level. If we can win the games, then that will automatically put pressure on the teams above us.

"Manchester United are above us in fourth, and they have the clear advantage. You can only affect that by winning games.

"That's the idea, starting with the game tomorrow evening."
