Liverpool set to reward Jordon Ibe with new contract - sources

Liverpool are set to reward Jordon Ibe's first-team progress at Anfield with a new long-term contract, sources have told ESPN FC.

Ibe, 19, has featured in all four of the Reds' Premier League matches since he was recalled early from a season-long loan at Championship side Derby.

Manager Brendan Rodgers cut short that loan because he felt that Ibe was ready to play a significant part at Liverpool and the club now want to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2017, in order to secure his long-term future.

It is not clear yet how long any new deal would run for, although reports have suggested that it would commit Ibe to staying on Merseyside until around 2020.

Ibe was a product of the youth set-up at League Two side Wycombe Wanderers, for whom he made his senior debut in August 2011, aged 15 years and 244 days. He agreed a deal to sign for Liverpool the following December, making his debut for them in a 1-0 Premier League victory over QPR in May 2013.

After two more senior appearances for the Reds last season, he went out on loan to Birmingham for three months in February 2014, helping them to stay in the Championship on the final day of the campaign.

Since being recalled from Derby, where he scored five goals in 24 appearances, Ibe has been playing as a right-wing back in the 3-4-2-1 formation that Rodgers has recently implemented.
