Liverpool to monitor Steven Gerrard hamstring injury carefully - Rodgers

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool will monitor captain Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury "on a daily basis," manager Brendan Rodgers has said.

Gerrard was ruled out for three weeks after being forced off with the problem during a 3-2 Premier League win over Tottenham on Feb. 10.

He missed last Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory at Crystal Palace, and will play no part against Turkish league leaders Besiktas in a Europa League round-of-32 first leg match at Anfield on Thursday.

It is the second hamstring setback the 34-year-old has suffered since the start of 2015, having also missed the 2-0 victory at Aston Villa on Jan. 17.

Rodgers has spoken repeatedly during the season of the need to manage the workload of his captain, who will end a 17-year Anfield first-team career this summer when he joins MLS side LA Galaxy.

The manager is reluctant to rush the midfielder back too soon, and so will monitor the injury carefully.

He said: "He won't have a chance for tomorrow, and we just need to assess on a daily basis where Steven's at."
