Jordan Henderson: Liverpool can still reach UCL last-16, return next year

LIVERPOOL -- Jordan Henderson is targeting two wins as Liverpool bid to end their losing run and secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Last season's Premier League runners-up have been beaten in their last four games in all competitions and, since defeating Ludogorets in September, they have lost to Basel and Real Madrid, twice, in Europe to leave them only three points from four matches.

And while Liverpool may not need two victories to secure a top-two finish, vice-captain Henderson is vowing they will do their utmost to beat Ludogorets in Sofia on Wednesday and then Basel at Anfield in December.

He told ESPN FC: "We know we need to win the next two games, it is as simple as that. We will be going in with the confidence to win both games and we will give it everything we have got."

Henderson missed Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday and they are waiting to discover if the midfielder will be fit to return.

But while they are in the wrong half of the Premier League table, Henderson, speaking as Liverpool's entire squad visited their Academy, targeted a top-four finish to ensure they are playing in Europe's premier club competition again in 12 months' time.

He added: "I still think we can be a top, top team in this league. We have got some real quality players and we have showed in glimpses this season that we can be a top side.

"We just need to do it on a more consistent basis to be honest, so at the minute I would say we will still be looking to get in the Champions League.

"We are still confident, still very much in and around that top four so we just need to do it more on a consistent basis and when the confidence picks up, start winning games on a regular basis and you find yourself right up there."
