Robbie Fowler: Liverpool XI friendly is reward for 'fantastic' Singapore fans

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler is determined to give the club's Singapore fans a "fantastic" display as he prepares to play in a Reds XI against the Singapore Masters on Saturday.

A squad of former Anfield legends are set to play a local XI at the Jalan Besar Stadium this weekend, and Fowler -- who scored 128 goals for Liverpool -- is ready to put on a show.

"The support for Liverpool in Singapore is fantastic, so it's always good to come here," he told the club's official website on Wednesday. "It doesn't surprise me how well-supported we are here.

"There are some fantastic players that will be on show. We've travelled all over the world as a Liverpool package, and everywhere we go we get so much support.

"The passion and the drive from the supporters helps us through the games, so we're thankful for them and hopefully they're thankful to see us."

Former Liverpool players who are also set to feature include Patrick Berger, Emile Heskey, Dietmar Hamann, Vladamir Smicer, Jerzy Dudek and Steve McManaman -- and the latter is eagerly awaiting Saturday's clash which will serve as a testimonial game for retiring Singapore striker Aleskandar Duric.

"It's wonderful to see the support here," McManaman said. "The Premier League as a whole is huge in the Far East region, so whether we're in Singapore or Thailand, Indonesia or Malaysia, we always get wonderful support.

"It's great to be here, it's great to see everybody, and hopefully it'll be a wonderful occasion over the next few days -- particularly on Saturday at the game.

"It's going to be an enjoyable few days and it's great to see everybody again. No doubt we'll spend some time sitting down and reminiscing about the good old days, but we're really looking forward to the game."
